The Tragedy of Macbeth
Laredo Theatre Guild International presents The Tragedy of Macbeth, a class of stage series production. The opening took place at the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theater on Friday February 2, 2012. The event started at 8 p.m. ending at 11 p.m. The event had a $10 charge for seniors and TAMIU students, and $15 for general admission.
Along with about 33 Actors and Actress, and other 30 positions such as Designers, Producers, Managers, Directors, Technicians, Choreographers, and more, the LTGI set an 11th Century Play with five acts of about four to eight scenes. Macbeth is produced by Joe Arciniega, who also plays the role of Macbeth, and is directed by Vernon Carroll whose role is playing King Duncan, and finally Teena Arciniega as Lady Macbeth. Actors varied from ages of 11 to 70 years or more. The theatrical production was also possible thanks to the support and monetary donations of various sponsors such as D.D. Hachar Charitable Trust Fund and the International Bank of Commerce.
The LTGI play presents a four-year cycle professional quality theater. Participation varies from teachers and curriculum directors with the goal of presenting one play per year. This class on stage series is based on literary works, contemporary, classical, and academic relevance to each high school grade from 9th to 12th. Once the cycle of the four school grades has been completed the plays start all over again. Alejandra Garcia, a TAMIU student, who attended the play stated, "I like the story because I read it before in high school… it was very interesting, and the time that I spent seeing the play was worth it."
TAMIU is Celebrating Shakespeare, with a series of events and lectures taking place from February 2 to February 12. On Wednesday February 1, 2012, the TAMIU students were able to attend the event free of charge with a TAMIU ID. Any additional performances will be free for the first 25 TAMIU students on a first come first serve basis. Also, if the students show ten minutes before the show, which usually happens in Laredo, the alumni will be entering for free if seats are available. The Production will take place from February 2 to February 4 at 8 p.m., February 5 at 3 p.m., and from Thursday February 9 to February 11 at 8 p.m. The show's closing performance will be held on Sunday February 12, 2012 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the following establishments, Foster's on Del Mar Boulevard, Suite 101, Blue Top on Hillside Rd #11, and at the TAMIU Bookstore.
