Faculty Art Gallery
Texas A&M International University presented a Faculty Art Exhibit on Thursday January 26, 2012 from 6pm to 7:30pm. The opening ceremony took place at the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery and was free and open to the public. In order to enjoy the Professors art work and see how it impacts students the gallery will remain open to the public until March 2, 2012.
Many TAMIU artists such as Nichole Foran, David Bogus, Alma Haertlein, Art Professors, Marcela Moran, Communications Professor, John Hickey, and Angela Carbone, Adjunct Professors, presented their first faculty art work at the campus after 5 years. Ceramics, paintings, video, photography, drawings, sculptures, and prints were exposed for the students and visitors along with information about the creation of some of the work to be able to understand how it works and what decisions were made during its completion.
Art work from John Hickey was one of the most impacts because it took him about two to three years to be completed. The ceramics, which made a great eye attention, was very detailed such as the guitars which were made with real guitar strings. Another art work that attracted the attention of the public was the photography. This was created by Professor Moran who was the artist and the model. She used her point and shoot Leica camera using the ten second self-timer to allow her to pose for the photograph showing the public her trips around the world since 2007.
The gallery show was open to any professor who wanted to exhibit their work, and the works selected depended on each artist which some were from the most recent works. Some of the arts exhibited are for sale. Other works are also publicized in other areas of the country such as Nichole Foran's art work that is also shown in California, she mentioned, "when you are doing print making or ceramics often you can make multiple, so you can show the same work in several locations at once."
Food and drinks were offered at the event while the public enjoyed the works. The gallery will remain open during the week for anyone who wants to enjoy this works. Visit the main art offices in CFPA 233 or if the public wants to speak directly to the artist by appointment. The next art gallery will be a National Jury Show Back to the Future which will take place on March 8 at 6pm in the CFPA Gallery.
If anyone wants to know with more detail about the Gallery, details about how it was formed, the public may listen to the audio recording with an interview with Nicole Foran.
