The Teachers Club Association
The Teacher´s Club is an organization that has been active for three years. It is a club that is open to join, for students who are interested in education or want to receive certification. The general requirements to become a member are to be a part-time or full- time student, a fee of $5 dollars, and attending the meetings on a regular basis.
Alicia Garcia, President of the Teacher´s Club, stated more information on what the organization is really about. The Teacher's Club has been active in many events that benefit the young children of Laredo. They are active in many community service events such as the library, elementary schools, all falling under the criteria of children and education.
Every Christmas, the club holds their annual Christmas Shoebox Project. The organization gets in touch with an organization that will provide them basic information of much needed children. Each member will then adopt a child and decorate the shoebox, filling it up with toys or gifts. Although members do not get to meet the children personally, members get the benefit of receiving a warm feeling of doing a nice gesture for a child of low income.
The club members want to be active in many events as possible.
The club is currently participating every Saturday, from 2 to 3 p.m, at the Laredo Public Library, for Story Hour. The club reads to the children from ages 3 through 8, but other children from various ages are welcome to join, with parental supervision. Every Saturday has a different theme; recent themes have been ABC´S, Snoopy Day, and Snowy Day.
A great world record was reached due to the hard working club. ¨We helped meet the Jump Start World Record, ¨ proudly stated Garcia.
On Saturday, Oct. 16, the club will be holding their Story Hour from 2 – 3 p.m. at the Laredo Public Library where the theme of the hour will be food.
