April 17, 2014 is the day the world has lost one of its best known literary writers of all time Mr. Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Gabriel Garcia Marquez died in Mexico City of pneumonia by his side was his wife Mercedes Barcha and his two sons Rodrigo Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia. His death was confirmed by one of his relatives Fernanda Familiar and by Cristobal Pera his former editor. Garcia Marquez died at age 87 and his lost has been mourned by many.
Garcia Marquez was born March 16, 1927 in the city of Aracataca, Colombia, he later moved to Barranquilla, Colombia. Marquez attended the National University of Colombia where he studied law and pursued Journalism. As a journalist he wrote for el Universal in Cartagena he also wrote for el Heraldo in Barranquilla, as well Bogotá's El Espectador as a film critic.

His journalistic career took him too many countries this was due to one of the stories he wrote while in Colombia the article in titled The Story of the Shipwrecked Sailor which cost great controversy in his native Colombia. The newspaper decided to send him to Europe for his own protection who feared retribution from the Colombian Government at the time.
Garcia Marquez moved around for a while taking him too many countries one of them was the United States and decided to move to Mexico City with his family. Mexico City would be the place where he wrote his most famous novel Cien años de soledad (One hundred years of Solitude). One hundred years of Solitude became a bestseller in months and was translated into 37 languages around the world. It is consider by many one of the world's best novels of all times. Marquez won many awards for One hundred years of Solitude in many countries.
Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote 40 novels not counting his short stories, essays, and poems he was also a screenwriter. Gabriel Garcia Marquez also wrote Love in the Times of Cholera which has also been made into a movie. Chronicle of a Death Foretold is also one of his best works among many other novels.
Today the world has lost one of its greatest writers of all time and I leave the reader with a quote from Gabriel Garcia Marquez, "If I knew that today would be the last time I'd see you, I would hug you tight and pray the Lord be the keeper of your soul. If I knew that this would be the last time you pass through this door, I'd embrace you, kiss you, and call you back for one more. If I knew that this would be the last time I would hear your voice, I'd take hold of each word to be able to hear it over and over again. If I knew this is the last time I see you, I'd tell you I love you, and would not just assume foolishly you know it already." ― Gabriel Garcia Márquez.

-Rest in peace Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez March 6,1927- April 17,2014 (87).
