Ms. TAMIU Candidate: Raquel Urrutia
My name is Raquel Urrutia and I am a sophomore majoring in Communication with a minor in dance. First and foremost I would like to thank TAMIU for allowing me the opportunity to grow and develop into a leader. Since my arrival at TAMIU, I have been an active member of school functions. During my second week of enrollment, I became a student employee at Recruitment and School Relations. The office of Recruitment led to many opportunities such as, becoming part of the promotional campaign and a student ambassador. I am also part of the Association of International Students (AIS) and the dance club. Other organizations I have been involved in are the Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLO), Orientation Leaders and represented TAMIU at the Adelante Conference in San Antonio.
During the winter break of 2010-11 I traveled to China as part of the Global Supply Chain Management Program. While abroad, I was able to get a glimpse of Chinese culture that has led me to further appreciate our diverse background. Being part of these organizations, has prepared me for my future. I strongly believe that TAMIU not only provides students with great educational opportunities but also shapes students into future leaders.
Although I am from a small town two hours away from Laredo, TAMIU has become my home and passion. My accomplishments embody the spirit of TAMIU and the purpose behind this campaign is to spread this pride. I want to show my fellow Dustdevils all the great things TAMIU has to offer. It is important that we stand together and create new traditions that promotes and maintain the maroon and silver pride. My goals are also to encourage each and every member of the TAMIU family. I want us to strive for best TAMIU and show everyone, not just locally but globally, that we are a great university.
