Dustdevil Style
Involvement at TAMIU
Involvement at Texas A&M International University allows students to discover and strengthen their leadership skills. On Tuesday Aug. 31, as part of Dustdevil Life/Involvement Week, the Office of Student Affairs hosted "U Be the Leader" at the Student Center rotunda. Students were able to apply for the leadership programs TAMIU has established.
There are five different leadership programs that TAMIU students can choose from. Each program has different eligibility requirements as well as intended classifications. Among those, the Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO) is for incoming Dustdevils which will help students learn and implement the qualities of leadership and accustom themselves to the university. For upperclassmen, Leadership TAMIU will provide different workshops to further their leadership skills and listening to first hand accounts from leaders within the community.
Orientation Leaders are also needed for New Student Orientation 2011. The OL's will help ease the incoming student's worries when transitioning to the university. The Office of Student Affairs also provides opportunities for students to be part of the Student Conduct Board and Honor Council.
As Madison Mojica, Retention Specialist expressed, "Students can learn different qualities and get involved in different activities where they can meet other people and develop their leadership skills for future jobs". For those students who are interested in the Freshman Leadership Organization and Leadership TAMIU there is an unlimited amount of spaces available; however, Orientation Leaders are limited to approximately 18 to 20 spaces. As for the Student Conduct Board and Honor Council there are two to three spaces available.
For more information contact the Office of Student Affairs at 326-2280 they are also located at the Student Center Suite 226.
