To the sound of the Chamber Music Ensemble of Texas A&M International University, the A.R. Sanchez Jr. School of Business commenced its "Spring Semester" Hooding and Honor Cord Ceremony. The event took place on Friday, May 17  at TAMIU's Fine Arts Theater at 7:30 p.m.

This memorable evening was opened by Dr. Steve Sears, Dean of the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business congratulating the scholars on this outstanding accomplishment. He proceeded to introduce Dr. Juan R. Lira, Associate Provost and Regents Professor of TAMIU. Dr. Lira welcomed and recognized students, their family members and their guests. Followed  by his  proudly delivered speech which expressed feelings and thoughts about their choice of career and the road ahead.

To continue the ceremony, Dean Sears presented Christina Isabel Santos, a scholar who maintained an astoundingly perfect academic record at TAMIU for graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Above that, Christina received honorable mention for her incredible involvement in several organizations in TAMIU and within the community. Miss Santos communicated to the audience a speech filled with emotion and gratitude towards her parents, professors and others who formed part of her support group throughout her years at TAMIU. She concluded her speech congratulating her fellow classmates.

The commemoration progressed with the presentation of Honor Cords to those students with a GPA of 3.6 and above. The cords were bestowed proudly by Dean Steve Sears, Dr. Antonio J. Rodriguez, Associate Dean/ Interim Chair and Ms. Maggie Blasco, Undergraduate Advisor.

Next was the presentation of Graduate Hooding. Dean Sears described the significance of the Graduate Hood. It represents and designates discipline according to the academic colors of their college. In this case, the color brown stands for the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business.

Dr. Rodriguez, Division of International Banking and Finance Studies, Dr. Srinivasan, Chair, Division of International Business and Technology Studies and Ms. Imelda Lopez, Graduate Advisor awarded each student their hoods. While the students each received their hood, readers Dr. Jorge Brusa, Dr. George Clarke and Dr. Jacqueline Mayfield shared with the audience a brief reflection written by the scholars.

To finalize the event, Dr. Sears made the closing remarks congratulating the students on their hard efforts and their strong determination that has led them to conclude this long yet rewarding  journey.  "May your knowledge attained at TAMIU open the path to success" are the wishes of the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business to the graduates.
