TAMIU's Spirit Week 2012
Texas A&M International University celebrates its second annual Spirit Week on campus throughout the week of January 30th to February 4th, 2012. Through out the week, the Office of Student Affairs, Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association and the Student Athletic Advisory Council will be hosting a series of events to promote school spirit and overall student involvement on campus.
In addition to the week's events, voting for Mr. and Ms. TAMIU will take place at onecard.tamiu.edu beginning at midnight on Monday, January 30, and ending on Wednesday February 1st, 2012. Last year, Mr. and Ms. TAMIU was created in order to promote community awareness for the University by choosing a male and female student as representatives of the student body. They were to attend various school functions such as the graduations, speeches given by the President of the University as well as community events like the annual Washington's Birthday Celebration Parade. In order for students to vote they will need their valid TAMIU ID number and their password will be their date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY). Also, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) will be promoting school spirit by giving away Limited Edition Spirit Week t-shirts. Information on how to obtain these shirts as well as information on events through the week can be found on the official Facebook page of OSA.
The week's events commence with the Shopping Cart Parade hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) on Monday, January 30th 2012 at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center patio. At night, the TAMIU Men's Basketball team plays against Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. at the Kinesiology-Convocation Building (KCB). Students are encouraged to wear maroon and show their support at the games.
On Tuesday Jan. 31st the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) will be hosting a Freeze Frame photo shoot for students beginning at 11 a.m. Then, on Wednesday Feb. 1st , 2012 the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will be hosting their 2nd Annual Pep-Rally at the Student Center Patio beginning at 11 a.m. all through 2 p.m. Students and campus organizations are encouraged to attend and show off their Dustdevil spirit. There will be games, prizes, food and various performances by the TAMIU Cheerleaders and the TAMIU Devilettes. The spirit stick will be awarded at the end of the event for the organization that shows the most spirit. There will also be brief speeches by this year's Mr. and Ms. TAMIU candidates, each showcasing why they would be the best representation of TAMIU.
On Thursday Feb. 2nd the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) will host a pre-game tailgate party with food and other goodies at 1:30 p.m. in the KCB garden to promote the night's events. The Women's and Men's basketball games will commence with the Lady Dustdevils tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the coronation of Mr. and Ms. TAMIU taking place around 7:15 p.m. Shortly after the coronation, the Men's Basketball game against Saint Edwards' Hilltoppers will take court. Students are encouraged to show support for both the games and candidates by wearing maroon and showing off their Dustdevil pride. After the game, everyone is invited to attend the Mr. and Ms. TAMIU coronation after party to be hosted in the SC Ballroom at 9 p.m.
On Friday Feb. 3rd, a Game Day Fiesta will take place at the Jorge Haynes Baseball Field. TAMIU Dustdevil Baseball team will open their 2012 season as they take on the University of Texas – Permian Basin (UTPB) Falcons in a doubleheader continuing at 3 p.m.
