First Official TAMIU Theater Troupe Meeting
The TAMIU Theater Troupe (TTT) is a student organization whose purpose is to bring theater arts to more than just student enrolled in theater classes. The TTT is involved in community service activity and is known to have the second highest volunteer rate in TAMIU.
On Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 the TAMIU Theater Troupe held their first general meeting at the Resident Learning Center to raise awareness of the organization. A lot of returning members showed up as well as new faces. Actors, make-up artists, and writers were amongst the crowd that evening. The TTT is primarily an organization that focuses on plays, stated Sergio Moreno, President of the TTT. Along with the President, the officers of the TTT were also introduced. Julio Garza as the event coordinator, Ricky Guerrero as the historian, Cassandra Rios as the secretary, Paul Niemeyer as the advisor and Cassandra Canales as the publicist.
As a member there is a $5 membership due, as with almost any organization, to benefit the TTT. With those dues, each member gains entrance to every production. The TTT will be holding open auditions on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. Auditions are not limited to acting but also for TTT crew, including but not limited to, make-up artist, local writers, and props manager. The TTTs focus is mainly on obtaining a solid cast and an even bigger crew. Moreno mentioned that they have produced comedies in the past and are looking towards a drama this year.
Anali Mena commented she was shy when she joined the TTT, but being involved in the TTT helped her overcome her shyness. As of now the TTT does not have a play ready but intend to choose their project this coming Thursday. They are scheduled to perform Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, Saturday, Oct. 9,2010 and Sunday, Oct., 10, 2010.
