SGA Weekly
Bringing together senators, SGA hopefuls, and TAMIU students, the Student Government Association of Texas A&M International University held its first senate meeting for the 2010-2011 school year. The meeting discussed topics such as the presidential goals of the year, upcoming SGA organized events, and it also served as a free forum for students and SGA hopefuls to express their opinions and have their voice heard.
SGA President, Mark Garner, presented his goals for the school year. Taken as an SGA tradition, the presidential goals help define the course the year is going to take.
Garner's goals all call for pro-activity and involvement. As president, he hopes to reinstate and enforce the international aspect of TAMIU, have SGA work with administrators to get the voices of the students heard, have monthly focus on different departments of the university, and help make TAMIU a participating member of the Laredo community. With Vice-President, Carlos Cortez, and SGA senators by his side, Garner is sure to reach these and many other goals.
Senators took the time to present events, such as the University Success Center Inauguration and the Logo Walk. These events play a major role in the student life at TAMIU.
After the entire agenda was addressed, members of the audience had the opportunity to take the floor. SGA meetings are typically open to the public. Each student, organization officer, or faculty member is encouraged to attend to voice his or her questions, comments, and concerns.
