Osama Bin Laden is Dead
The United States of America has finally received justice for the attacks on the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001. Osama Bin Laden, who was responsible for the attacks on the Twin Towers, has been killed by U.S. military forces. President Barack Obama addressed the nation on Sunday night, May 1, 2011. The President did not disclose many details on his death, but gave the United States public the bare facts.
President Barack Obama made his announcement late Sunday night of the death of Osama Bin Laden. The president kept his speech and remarks on the Bin Laden's death short and brief. From his speech he said that justice has been served, even after more than 10 years of waiting for the job to be done. The president revealed that he had some briefings on the whereabouts of Bin Laden in August, which led to Bin Laden's death on Sunday. The president continued to elaborate on the events, which led to Bin Laden's death, by saying that clue after clue kept coming in and finally led to the finding of Osama Bin Laden. According to U.S. intelligence, there were reasons to believe that Osama Bin Laden was hiding out in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. With all of this information, the president did not hesitate to send in U.S. forces to capture Osama Bin Laden. However, upon Bin Laden's discovery a small fire-fight broke out and Osama Bin Laden was killed and his body was taken into the custody of the United States.
The president made it clear that neither Americans nor civilians were harmed during this military operation. During the President's Speech, he made it quite clear that the manhunt for Osama Bin Laden is finally over and he is now dead. This has been a manhunt starting since President Clinton's and President Bush's time in office and now it is over. According to the Huffington Post, a popular news website, the former President Bush made a phone call to President Obama and told him of his gratitude to the men and women of our military and intelligence communities and that "The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done." We can all take so much from these words. However, there is still a lingering doubt.
What does Bin Laden's death mean for our country? Sure, he's dead and gone, but what of his followers? Some officials are warning the American public to stay on alert for retaliation from Al-Qaeda. Yet, other officials are saying that there are no specific threats to worry about. However, we all know the saying "Better safe than sorry." Despite the lingering doubts, we can now take the time to thank our men and women in uniform and pray for their safe return home. While we may not know what lies ahead for our country after this achievement, we can all take solace in the fact that the man responsible for bringing terror onto our shores has been brought to justice. We thank those in uniform for all of their hard work and sacrifices and pray for their safe return home and wish them safety, while they are away from home.
