Cupcakes for Music
A sweet event took place on Sept. 22, 2010 at the Texas A & M International University Student Center. The Association of Collegiate Music Educators hosted a cupcake sale to help raise money and provide the music majors an opportunity to attend a music convention in San Antonio, TX in February. The Texas Music Education Association (TMEA) sponsored the event.
Besides trying to raise funds to attend the convention that will provide the members of ACME the opportunity to view different subjects of the musical industry, the fundraiser is also helping them spread the word of what ACME is really about. ¨We are just music majors; it is getting the word out for us here which we need,¨ stated Melissa Treviño, president of A.C.M.E.
The Fundraiser was held from 11:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m, however, by 12:20, the cupcakes were all gone. A total of 144 cupcakes were homemade by the members a night before the event, varying of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and funfetti. Each cupcake had its own special musical design. The cupcakes were priced for a $1 donation.
The organization will be hosting another fundraiser in October, during the OctoberFest to keep raising funds for their trip.
