Spring 2012 Informal Dance Concert
The Texas A&M International University Dance Club hosted an Informal Dance Concert on Thursday April 5, 2012. Theatre doors opened at 7:00 p.m. for the public and the admission cost was $3. The money raised is part of the end of the year trip for the Dance Club. This event was created to give students the opportunity to show their passion for dance and participate, even if they are not in a dance class or club.
Auditions took place for the informal dance concert took place in early March of this year. Dancers needed to have at least 90% of their piece in order to audition and meet certain requirements in order to be selected. The TAMIU Dance Club selected up to 15 choreographies that varied in genres. Some of the genres included Folklorico, Hip Hop, Modern Dance, Bachata, Tropical, and Jazz. From solos, duets, and group pieces which displayed with all kinds of costumes with different colors on Thursday.
The event started at 7:00 p.m. and ended at 8:30 p.m. As every aannual spring fundraiser the informal dance concert has a guest artist, and this semester was not the exception. Nudo Piedi Contemporary Dance Company opened the event with the choreography of Jessica Zamarripa named Remember the Holocaust. Since this is the only contemporary dance company in Laredo, Dance Club is trying to help out all dance forms exposing them in TAMIU. The show continued with Fandangos de Doña Francisquita, La Rosa Negra, a bachata choreographed by Corina Muñoz. Several other pieces such as Madness, Ave Maria, Strip, Let Me Love You, Fiery Shake, and Happenstance were portrayed by duo and solo performers. Other choreographies were added to the program portraying some of the dance club members . Professor Sandra Leal with one of her Folklorico students, Martin Gallego, danced several pieces which also included Classico Veracruzano.
Every year TAMIU Dance Club organizes this concert where TAMIU student participate. Neguif Angeles, Amanda Garza, and Karla Vazquez were part of the special commitee who are in charge of putting the concert together. Bede Leyendecker, Sandra E. Leal, were advisors and organizations such as Alma Gutana and Ballet Folklorico, Andrea Vazquez,TAMIU Dance Advisor, Hector M. Perales, Dance CLub President, and Bob Batey , the stage manager, also made this concert possible .
