Dusty's Den Grand Opening
Wednesday, February 15, 2012, marked the grand opening of Texas A&M International University's Dusty's Den. The event was made possible by TAMIU's Student Government Association. Dusty's Den opening, which provided free food and drinks, was held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The grand opening was to show the newly remodeled Dusty Den, which had expanded floor space to accommodate new gaming tables and an area for Xbox 360 Kinect gaming systems.
Director of Recreational Sports, Sylvia Barrera, stated that Dusty's Den is, "an extension of the recreation center, except we focus more on a social setting and a social atmosphere." Barrera added that the event was actually a "reopening" of the Dusty's Den. The facility was already open, but "SGA partnered with us to ensure that we get the word out to the student body and campus community that the facility is now open," added Barrera.
Dusty's Den is a place where students can socialize with friends and have a good time. There are three billiard tables, two Foosball tables, and some Xbox 360 Kinect gaming systems. Sophomore undergraduate, Carlos Rendon said that visiting Dusty's Den is a "nice way to blow off some steam, relax, and be with friends." It is a perfect way to, "get our mind off of work," Rendon added. When asked if he had visited Dusty's Den before and his thoughts about Dusty's Den, Rendon stated that visits, "a lot" and that Dusty's Den is, "awesome and it has different variations of games." The entire TAMIU community is invited to visit Dusty's Den and have some fun.
TAMIU's Recreational Sports Department is in charge of the game room, or Dusty's Den, located in the Student Center room 202. Students and faculty are welcomed to visit. A valid TAMIU ID is required upon entrance. Dusty's Den hours of operation are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m on Mondays through Thursdays. On Fridays, Dusty's Den is open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information on Dusty's Den, visit its website at www.tamiu.edu/recsports/gameroom.
