The Bridge's Birthday Bash
Rock for Toys
The Bridge Student Newspaper celebrated its 15th birthday with a charity concert that rocked TAMIU on Nov. 10. The event allowed the TAMIU community to donate toys in anticipation of the holiday season for those children who are less fortunate. The Bridge provided food, music and prizes to students, staff and faculty members all in an effort to contribute a small but significant gift to the
Laredo community.
"What a better way for the newspaper to celebrate its birthday than with an event that will help us not only reach students but provide a much needed help to the community," explained Dr. Flores, Faculty Advisor. Discruña kicked off the event at noon, while the crowds gathered at the festive tables of food that ARAMARK provided.
Later, Bridgette the Bear, The Bridge mascot was taken on stage by Christine Rojas, Editor-in-Chief and Freddy Gonzalez, Staff Writer as everyone sang Happy Birthday. Applause filled the air as Kim Hernandez, Assistant Director of Marketing and Sales cut the cake and distributed it to the masses.
Candies fell to the ground as students broke open piñatas blindfolded as B.U.M performed on stage followed by La Mata. Several students received gift cards from Wal-Mart after drawing plates from the buffet line with the word prize written underneath. The event proved to be a success as many toys were collected and audiences danced and cheered as the bands played.
This event was sponsored by ARAMARK and the Office of Student Affairs. Toy donations are still being accepted at The Bridge office for those who still wish to contribute a bit a joy for children over the holiday season.
The Bridge staff would like to thank all of those individuals that helped make this event possible including Discruña, B.U.M, La Mata and everyone that donated a toy.
