Texas A&M International University is home to many clubs and organizations for students to take part in during their college career. One of the many organizations is TAMIU's art club, officially known as TAMIU Art Ink.The University art club is open to any student who has a passion for the arts. The Bridge sat down with the President of Art Ink, Santos R. Polendo, to discuss Art Ink's growing popularity among students.

In addition, the Bazaar it is a "project that will give artist the opportunity to showcase and/or sell their pieces of art throughout Laredo" as stated in the Bazaar Facebook page. This organization can be sometimes mistaken for Art Ink as Polendo corrected, "No, Bazaar is run by SIFE, but we have been a part of the Bazaar several times and helped promote the Bazaar. Students in free enterprise (SIFE) runs the Bazaar to promote the arts by using marketing and public relations."

Since Art Ink promotes art around campus and within our city, we asked Polendo why the club is so driven to do this. Polendo answered, "The Art Ink has always been a student organization that feels passionate about art and sharing it with our community is what our main focus is."  Polendo feels that by promoting their artwork, it will create awareness to the issues Art Ink faces by not having enough workspace to create art or have enough storage for their art.

TAMIU is a school full of young, talented artists and Art Ink allows them to showcase their work in the Laredo community. Art Ink participated with the Laredo Little Theater by helping them create a mural for one of their plays, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare ABRIDGED."They also exhibited art work done by the officers and members of Art Ink. Polendo was excited by this and went on to say, "The exposure of the Laredo community in partnership with the Laredo Little Theater has brought awareness about the talent that TAMIU has to offer."

Art Ink is a open to all students who have a passion for art and if interested in joining, you can visit their Facebook page ArtInkto sign up, or call (830) 335-9537.
