Melissa Treviño Senior Recital
In order to fulfill the requirements for the degree of Bachelor in Music, the College of Arts and Sciences presented Melissa Treviño and her Senior Recital.Ms. Treviño stated, "All Music Education Majors, which is what I am, are required to do a Senior Recital as part of a graduation requirement. It is taken as a zero credit course, but the amount of work and practiced required to successfully complete a recital is more than any other 3 hour course I have ever taken."The event took place at the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall on Friday February 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.Dr. Fritz Gechter, who played the piano, accompanied Melissa in her performance.
Melissa began her musical studies since sixth grade. Later, she continue in the J.W. Nixon Orchestra and the Vidal M Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts. In Fall 2008 Ms. Treviño enrolled TAMIU and entered the studio of Yu-Mei Huang and has been an active member of the Association of Collegiate Music Educators at TAMIU. She has completed several musical works which includes concertos by Mozart and Bruch, and sonatas by Beethoven and Brahms. Melissa received second place in the Annual Lamar Bruni Vergara Academic Conference and she will be competing in the third Annual Laredo Concerto Competition. She has been performing for about four years in the Philharmonic Orchestra , currently serves as a concertmaster in the Chamber Orchestra of Laredo, and is a member of Stringendo String Quintet.
Ms. Treviño along with Dr. Gechter performed Sonata No.9 for violin and Piano in A Major, Op.47, "Kreutzer" by Ludwig van Beethoven playing Adaigo Sostenuto-Presto, Andante con Variazioni, and Presto. In the second part of the program the artist performed Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major by Cesar Franck playing Allegretti ben moderato, Allegro, Ben moderato: Recitative-Fantasia, and Allegretti poco mosso. She started to prepare for the Franck Sonatas since Summer of 2011. Ending her performance Melissa and Dr. Gechter presented Polonaise Brillante in A Major, Op.21 by Henyrk Weiniawski, which were prepared since the Fall semester of 2011. As Melissa Trevino, Music Educator Major,stated, "I basically learned the Beethoven Sonata during the Holiday break between the Fall and Spring semester. I also reviewed and worked on the other two selections during that time." These peaces were personally selected by Melissa and her violin professor. Family, friends, and TAMIU alumni attended to appreciate the effort and hard work Melissa has taken to make of this performance the best. F
