Judas's Return to the World
Lady Gaga’s New Single
Judas, the infamous traitor in the bible, has now made his way back into the modern world. Lady Gaga's new single titled "Judas" has broken through the chains of time and crossed over into our world of today. Gaga's new single involves a love affair between her and the apostle. She paints a picture with her lyrics and shows the world that he is someone she cannot retreat from. It just goes to show that inspiration is all around us and that singing about biblical figures are not off limits.
Lady Gaga has always rocked our senses with fast beats, thumping drums, and rhythms that make you want to move, but this new single begs the question of wondering if it is ok to sing about a man, who betrayed Jesus? While this question is usually the first of many, one must take a look and understand what she means by "Judas". From reading on about Judas, one concludes that this man clearly does not deserve any praise. However, Gaga does not mean Judas necessarily from the bible, but for falling for the wrong man over and over again. In her lyrics to this song she states "Forgive him when his tongue lies through my brain…Even after three times he betrays me" She creates a picture of her battling the darkness within her to bring herself to the light. However, most of her criticism did not just come from singing about a love affair with Judas, but from how similar it sounds to her other song "Bad Romance".
According to The Marquee Blog from CNN.com, the pop star got criticized for having her previous hit "Born this Way" sound like Madonna's "Express Yourself", but now it seems that "Judas" sounds like her song "Bad Romance" from the previous album "The Fame Monster". It seems that she cannot find that hook or sound that makes Lady Gaga…Lady Gaga. However, it is safe to say that "Judas" is a single we will be hearing for a while. Yet, I do not feel that it is a bad thing. We're all going to be singing along to it anyway. Why not jump on the bandwagon now? The song itself is an amazing song. You can be sure that you will be bobbing your head and moving your body as you listen to it. The beat is fast and breaks down in the middle of the song and allows for break to occur.
This song builds you up to a fantastic ending. The rhythm is hard and fast and makes it so much fun to dance and sing along to. The lyrics are dark and make you explore a part of yourself you did not know was there. Lady Gaga expresses in her lyrics "Jesus is my virtue, and Judas is the demon I cling to" showing that we are all subject to that one man or woman in our life that we simply cannot say "No" to. She shows her devotion to good, and yet, still admits to her dark side. Something we all carry within ourselves. It is clear that this pop star knows what she has to do to make herself and her ideas known to the world. Lady Gaga is a force not to be reckoned with. Her tango with controversial issues will always be around. She will continue to push the envelope and show the world that it is time to break the old boundaries down and allow expression to be free. This new single "Judas" shows that she is never afraid to speak her mind and have her music relate to her life and the life of her fans.
