Did anybody say LoterÃa?
On Sept. 30, 2010 the Campus Activities Board (CAB), hosted their annual Loteria in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The Texas A&M International University's Student Center Ballroom was at full capacity after Cabbies distributed over 400 Loteria cards for 18 games.
Although doors opened at 6:30 p,m., students had already formed lines by 6:00 p.m. The Loteria was free of charge and the only requirement was a valid TAMIU ID.
Refreshments and popcorn were provided to the students in attendance. Among the prizes that were up for grabs included a Samsung 42 inch television, two iPads, a Samsung Digital Camera, Shakira tickets, Buffalo Wild Wings $25 Gift Cards, Fiesta Texas Season Passes, TAMIU equipment, Xbox 360, Amazon Kindle, movie packs, and a CD boom box.
Fernando Preciado, a senior business major who won a $50 Visa Gift Card, expressed, "The ways of winning appeared almost impossible for the fact that each student had only one loteria card and knew CAB handed out about 400 cards. I thought it would be difficult to win but soon enough, I found myself filling up the card and yelling "loteria!" and won 50 dollars."
Preciado continued, "Overall the loteria that was held was fun since the room was filled with excitement and it was a good way to relax after classes."
Two and a half hours later, 18 students were awarded various prizes. Even though not every student won a price, ultimately everyone had the opportunity to participate in a campus sponsored activity where they were able to interact with other students and have a good time.
