Star Club Sells Corn in a Cup

On a sunny Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at Texas A&M International University, the members of the Star Club in conjunction with the TRiO Program organized a corn in a cup sale. The event started at 10:00 a.m. and lasted until 3:00 p.m. Aside from corn, different flavors of aguas frescas were on sold.

Members of the Star Club also took this opportunity to inform students about the club's mission. The Star Club is an organization of students for students. They raise money for scholarships where members of the club have to earn points through community service and participation in an effort to receive these scholarships

Albeza Duran, President of the Star Club added, "Anyone can joy the club, the money goes to scholarships for the members of our own club. Anyone is welcome to help out in our activities. We take get their information and give points for each events that they can help out. Some of our members donate stuff for our events and they also get points that accumulate for future scholarships."

Students enjoying their corn in a cup were thinking of participating in future events for the club, hoping to earn in the future some money for school. Junior David Rodriguez, said, "A penny save is a penny earned. If I can help them out and save some money for tuition, great!"

For students who are interested in participating and becoming a part of the Star Club, meetings are held every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Trio office, which is located at the Cowart Hall room 208.
